Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on federal sex-trafficking charges in July 2019 and died inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on August 10, 2019. His death was officially ruled a suicide by hanging.

The questions did not end there. Investigations that followed documented serious failures inside the jail, while arguments over surveillance footage, staffing, supervision and the circumstances surrounding his death continued to feed public suspicion.

And the Epstein story is very much back in the news.

In January 2026, the Department of Justice released more than 3 million additional pages under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, bringing the total released under the law to nearly 3.5 million pages. According to the DOJ, some of that material came from investigations into Epstein’s death.

That makes this an interesting time to return to a reading I originally did in February.

I went into this reading wanting to explore one of the biggest questions that has followed Epstein’s death: what actually happened inside that jail? I was especially curious about the theories surrounding whether he died by suicide, whether someone else may have been involved or, however unlikely it may sound, whether there was any room at all for the theory that he somehow left that jail alive.

Tarot cannot establish which of those things happened. But I wanted to see which parts of the story the cards kept pulling me toward—and which doors they refused to close.

About This Reading

I wasn’t asking the cards to prove a conspiracy or tell me who, if anyone, was responsible for Epstein’s death. I wanted to look at the places where the official story feels solid, where it starts to strain and what may have disappeared when Epstein died.

I also wanted to give the more controversial theories some room without assuming they were true—including the possibility that he was murdered or somehow left that jail alive.

The cards could support those possibilities, reject them or leave me exactly where I started: with questions.
