The Black Dahlia: An Unsolved Mystery Tarot Reading

The Black Dahlia Unsolved Mystery Tarot Reading banner with an Elizabeth Short case file, Los Angeles map, dark dahlia, tarot cards, and 1940s Los Angeles imagery.

In January 1947, 22-year-old Elizabeth Short was murdered in Los Angeles, California. Her body was discovered on January 15 in a vacant lot in the Leimert Park neighborhood. The brutality of her murder quickly drew enormous attention from police, the public, and the press.

Investigators were working without anything close to the forensic tools available today. They also had to deal with unreliable tips, false confessions, problems sharing information between agencies, and intense interference from the media. The investigation produced an enormous amount of information, but much of it was contradictory, unreliable, or difficult to verify.

The case has never been solved. There have been suspects, theories, books, documentaries, and claims that someone finally knows who killed Elizabeth Short, but none has resulted in a definitive answer. Nearly eighty years later, her murder remains one of the most famous unsolved cases in American history.

This tarot reading does not attempt to resolve the case. It follows the story the cards told, without attempting to finish it.

About This Reading

This reading uses tarot to look at the patterns, pressures, and unanswered questions surrounding an unresolved case. The cards are not being presented as facts, and I am not using them to name a perpetrator or claim that the case has been solved.

The Mystic Digest Unsolved Mystery Series looks at cases, historical mysteries, disappearances, and stories that have never reached a clear ending. Each subscriber reading includes the full tarot spread, card-by-card interpretations, and the overall story that develops across the cards. Some entries also include additional readings that return to the case with new questions. Paid members can read this entry along with the growing archive of Unsolved Mystery readings on LilliDigest.com.
