In Spring 2020, Cephalofair Games came out with a standalone game based in the world of Gloomhaven, this was originally released as a Target exclusive. However, in August 2020 the game was released worldwide. This is a smaller more streamlined version of Gloomhaven and is considerably cheaper than the main game.
The game is considered a prequel to the behemoth smash hit that is Gloomhaven. It contains 25 scenarios in the campaign. The first 5 scenarios ease players into the game mechanics making this game a great way to teach Gloomhaven.
The game includes four new characters. Valrath Red Guard, Inox Hatchet, Human Voidwarden, and Quatryl Demolitionist. These characters can be used in Gloomhaven as well.
The game does not use cardboard map tiles for the play area. Instead players play directly on the, spiral bound, scenario book.
Additionally, there is some excellent accessories that help improve your Jaws of the Lion experience. Including a sticker and map set that will allow you to reset your game once you complete the campaign, and a top-notch game organizer. Available at Amazon.
So, if you and your game group have a budget and/or were on the fence about buying Gloomhaven, you could buy this instead, this is a great entry level game. The MSRP is about $50 USD and is sold at Amazon for less. The game has 35+ hours of play time.
